This is my first introduction to the author so I got into this book with little or no expectations except the fact that it was classified as “Romance and Humor” and I wanted to read something light and fun.
‘Exit Through The Jungle’ is a story set mainly in the Central American country of Costa Rica and it follows Jolie, an American Instagram influencer who travels there in a bid to get her online business back on track after losing most of her clients. She accidentally gets thrown in the middle of a blackmail and drug cover-up featuring three brothers Kai, Raffi and Noah who kidnap her and eventually finds herself in close proximity with Kai who tries to help her escape but unfortunately they get lost in the jungle and have the surprise adventure of their lives.
This was supposed to be a light and quick read but It took me a while to get into the story because I didn’t find the premise believable and most of the characters were not really likable. However, somewhere half way into reading the book, the story picked up a bit when Kai and Jolie got lost in the jungle but I found the dialogue a bit poor and their “romance” too quick for my liking. I also didn’t get the humor in the story if any and that was something I was looking forward to. The end was also flat and predictable with exceptions of some “shocking” revelations made by Kai’s mother so It wasn’t the best shot for me. I believe there was a good story in here but the way in which it was told did not do real justice to it.
On the bright side, this was my first time reading a book set in Costa Rica and I am now really curious about the Country. This story has spurred my interest to visit San Jose in the near future hoping that the world would get back to normal soon.
This book didn’t leave an impression on me but if you are interested in reading something light and mindless then you may enjoy reading this book.
