Hello everyone,
I hope you are all doing well and staying safe.
Welcome to our monthly feature for authors.
The author for the month of May is the lovely Timi Waters, author of the ‘The Red Lines Trilogy’ and several other books which I have reviewed on this blog (Check them out in “Book Reviews).
After reading her books, I became curious about the author and immediately wanted to feature her here. I am grateful that she obliged and I hope you enjoy reading her answers to the ten questions about her life as a published author.
So here we go…..
The Author:

Timi Waters writes for the love of writing. Her genre cuts across a broad span of dark, romantic, and psychological thrillers with a generous sprinkle of erotica. Her debut novel, THE RED LINES TRILOGY, is a three-part novel that tells the story of three people torn by love, lust, obsession, and a fit of all-consuming jealousy.
When Timi is not writing, she is reading classic novels and sipping hot chocolate.
The Interview:

Timi has given us a sneak-peek into her life as a published author by answering 10 questions.
What was an early experience where you learned that language had power?
Timi: I was sixteen when I found relief in words. Writing down my thoughts
helped me cope with teen depression and taught me how to better express my
feelings.
What kind of research do you do, and how long do you spend researching before
beginning a book?
Timi: Google, books, blog articles, calling up friends in the profession I’m looking
to explore, Twitter and Facebook polls.
I carry out research long enough to get the facts needed to write smoothly and
confidently.
What has influenced you the most as a writer?
Timi: The desire to let the voices in my head be heard.
What is your most unusual writing quirk?
Timi: Writing in a dark room while drinking coffee and listening to the sound of a
flowing sea on YouTube.
What one thing would you give up to become a better writer?
Timi: I can’t think of any for now as I’m a disciplined writer.
What do you love most about the writing process?
Timi: Seeing me grow with each draft.
Could you tell us a bit about your most recent book and why it is a must-read?
Timi: Haven is a romantic comedy set in a beach resort. Its core theme is autism
and a mix of other themes most Nigerian authors shy away from. It is premised on
a gay Nigerian running for a seat in the house of senate with plans to paper-marry
his best friend who is autistic and uninterested in conventionally marriages.
Everything changed when she went to a resort and met an incurable romantic who is bent on convincing her to change her views on love and marriage and her
“boyfriend/fiance” discovering the guy was an old love interest.
I’m excited about this novel for two things, one it’ll be released in paperback as
opposed to having it on an ebook platform first. So a lot of work will go into its
editing and getting it print ready. Two, it’s a feel good romance, kind of an upbeat
to my usual writing style which is often dark.
What does being a successful author look like to you?
Timi: A lot comes to mind. Top on the list, though, is seeing my books widely
distributed, having book clubs adding my books to their book of the month, and
having my books adapted into movies.
What is your advice to Indie Authors? On writing? Marketing?
Timi: On writing: Write daily, Read voraciously, Travel when you can for the world is bursting with amazing stories, Listen to the radio.
On Marketing: Make friends with people who love reading your genre, Get them to
know and trust you first before selling them your book, Master social media marketing, Don’t be afraid to spend money running ads and creating awareness
for your books, Get readers and reviewers to write honest reviews, Don’t fret if the
reviews are bad, it’ll only help you become a better writer.
What is something memorable you have heard from your readers/fans?
Timi: A reader wrote a review after reading Red Lines that she totally related to it
for she’s also in a marriage similar to Bekere and Folu and understood the
uncertainties and pressures of being in a childless marriage. That made the months
of research and sleepless nights worth every effort.
Many thanks to the author for granting this interview once again. I hope you all enjoyed reading this as much as I did.
Thanks for stopping by.
