Welcome to Word Play Wednesday!
Word Play Wednesday is a weekly feature of written and spoken word poetry. I will be sharing my written and spoken word poems in addition to poems by other wonderful Poets both past and present. If you are interested in sharing some of your poetry, feel free to buzz me and we can work something out.
I hope that you enjoy reading and listening to our thoughts, feelings and rants and in many ways relate to some of them.
Enjoy!
This week I will be sharing a poem I recently wrote. I hope you like it too.
You Will Not Find Us here
Do not look for us here!
This place where we were left for dead.
This place where our mothers were buried under the weight of oppression.
Where they pitched their tents.
Bent on building skyscrapers on sinking sand.
Believing that cowering down to the whip would be a steady foundation for a tower of bricks.
This place where they traded self esteem for peace.
Self respect for sanity and Their voices for the future of their children.
Do not look for us here!
Where our bodies are used as objects of pleasure or a place to unleash anger, frustrations and failure.
Where we are humiliated, shamed by the words and actions of the very ones who promised us the world.
Where we are held captive in mansions covered in gold while we cuddle depression like a sick child holds unto her mother.
Where our pillows are the only therapists we can find as they alone know the weight of our silent tears.
Do not look for us here!
This place of idleness where pockets are dry and bank accounts empty.
Where we depend on the goodwill of slave drivers
And are left with nothing when our masters smell disloyalty.
Where we are valued by the gender of the children we bring forth and are judged by how low we bow their grandmothers .
Do not look for us here!
In this tomb,
In this grave,
For we have risen with Christ.
We are now new beings who have been renewed both in mind and in body.
Who are weak yet strong.
Who no more walk in the flesh but in the spirit.
Who know that we are worth more than a thousand sparrows.
Who believe we can do all things and be all things through Christ.
Do not look for us,
Because,
you will not find us here.
