After reading two really good books by the author that made it to my top 12 best reads for 2021, I decided to catch up on her older books I am yet to read.
‘Fix Her Up’ is another delightful read by the author with a fake relationship troupe laced with some deeper themes such as dealing with “failure”, self-esteem and broken relationships. Georgette Castle has always had a crush on her brother’s best friend, Travis Ford. Travis, after his base ball career comes to an end due to an injury is back in town with his tail behind his legs. Georgie takes it upon herself to talk some sense into him so as to encourage him get on with his life and in the course of this rescue mission they both decide to help each other by pretending to be in a relationship. They don’t bargain for the feelings and attraction that consumes them when they get on this journey but it eventually leads them to their happily ever after.
I think I am beginning to like the ‘Fake Relationship’ troupe a lot and I can’t get my head around why I actually like it this much. This book was fun to read with really interesting characters especially Georgie’s siblings. As always, Tessa Bailey made me laugh quite a number of times and I was all in for Georgie and Travis to get together. I should also say here that so far, I think the author creates the type of male characters I like who are go-getters, confident and don’t beat around the bush with miscommunication and all those annoying things you find some male character doing. However, although I liked Travis, I wasn’t completely sold out to his character because in the beginning he seemed quite annoying but he later won my heart. Also, the parts about Travis’ childhood that fueled his insecurities was a great way to give a better understanding of his choices and behavior. I enjoyed reading this book and I highly recommend it to romance lovers. It’s the first book in the series so I’ll be reading the second book shortly.
