Book Review: Verity by Colleen Hoover

I recently joined an online book club and Verity is our book for the month of March. I have read quite a number of books by the author and was curious about this one. I went into reading this book blind as I didn’t read the blurb or any reviews of the book. I wanted to be surprised.

‘Verity’ follows struggling writer Lowen as she is offered to complete a series for renowned bestselling author, Verity Crawford who was recently in an accident and is not able to complete her books. Although Lowen is worried that Verity’s shoes are too big for her to fill, she accepts the offer because she really needs the money and it would be a boost to her writing career. As Lowen rummages through Verity’s notes and outlines in a bid to find inspiration to write, she discovers an autobiography Verity has written. Curiosity gets the better of her and she goes ahead to read the manuscript which reveals a can of worms beyond her imagination. This is a story about lies, deception, obsession, murder, loss and grief.

Wow! What a story! This book book drained me mentally and emotionally. I must say here that Colleen Hoover is a phenomenal writer. I am in awe of her imagination and how she can tell such a twisted tale. I was enveloped in this world with Verity, Jeremy and Lowen. It took me through so many emotions, anger, fear, disgust, confusion and I can’t stop thinking about Verity. The feeling it leaves you with is insane especially with an ending like that. I never saw it coming. Infact, I never saw anything that came at me in this book coming. The plot twists were really something. Verity is definitely not for the faint hearted so if you are triggered by murder, loss and the likes, please approach this book with caution.

This was a very good book however, it’s not one I would ever want to reread as the thought of the story gives me the chills. If you love thrillers with mind blowing plot twists, you will definitely love this one.
