This is the third and last book in this series and the fifth book I have read by the author who has fast become a favorite of mine.
‘Tools of Engagement’ is an enemies to lovers/age-gap romance story featuring Britany and Wes. We have seen a lot of the sassy and confident Britany in the first two books but this time we get to know her more, her motivations and what really makes her tick. Wes on the other hand, is the 23 year old man who is new in town to tend to his 5 year old niece who has been abandoned by her mother. Wes gets a job with Steven, Britany’s brother and this is how they meet. Although they both recognize the attraction they have for each other, they can’t help but get under each other’s skin every time they try to interact especially as Britany is 7 years older with a lot to prove. As she decides to break out of the family’s real estate business and establish one of her own, Wes is the only one who is available to join her team and she has no choice but to accept his help because she needs a lot of it if wants to show the world that she can also run a successful business like her brother. This is a story about taking a second chance at love, courage, responsibility and acceptance.
This book started a bit slow for me unlike the first two book in the series and to be honest I almost DNFed it. I suspect it had to do with the endless banter between Britany and Wes. Since I am not a huge fan of the enemies to lovers troupe, I guess it was a bit too much for me but when it picked up, I was hooked to the story and was rooting for both Britany and Wes until the end. Wes is my kind of guy who is confident and knows what he wants especially at a young age of 23. I have always loved to read age-gap romance stories particularly when the guy is the younger one in the equation (which is rare). It was nice to watch the dynamics of this play out in their relationship and how they were able to eventually make it work in the end.
I really enjoyed reading this one and I recommend it to all romance lovers. if you are a fan of the enemies to lover troupe you will definitely love this one.
