Ali Hazelwood is one author I totally relate to because I am also a scientist and I still have dreams of working in research/academia which her books are based upon. I usually reserve reading her books for times when I need to read something that I am at least 90% sure that would entertain me in the best ways and so far, she has never disappointed me. This book was one of my anticipated new releases for this year, so I was excited to get into it.

The story follows Elsie, who with PhD in Physics is finding it hard to get a decent job to cover her bills especially a much-needed health insurance. While she works as a professor teaching several courses at a university with very low pay, as a side hustle she also provides a service as an escort for men who require a date or several dates. It is on one of her fake dating escapades for a client she meets Jack, her “fake boyfriend’s” brother but when he turns up at the most important job interview for a position at MIT which promises to change her life and career for good, everything she has worked so hard for turns upside down. This is an enemies to lovers/miscommunication troupe romance story with some good steam and heart to go with it.

Ali did it again for me. I couldn’t stop reading this one. It was well paced, witty and entertaining on every level. As always, I love the science and physics and everything around it but most importantly I really liked Elsie’s character and how through this character the author was able to explore several issues that women face in a male dominated discipline, and she did it in the simplest ways. Jack was also a darling even when he was initially portrayed as a difficult man, and I enjoyed watching him love Elsie despite herself and any insecurities she had. To say the least, I was smiling at the end and was also sad that it was all over so as you may already expect me to say, I highly recommend this book.

If you love romance stories especially related to scientists and all our jargon, you’ll love this one. I hope to read one more book by her soonest so watch out for that review to see if I’ll have the same experience as this one.

The Author:

Ali Hazelwood

Ali Hazelwood is a multi-published author—alas, of peer-reviewed articles about brain science, in which no one makes out and the ever after is not always happy. Originally from Italy, she lived in Germany and Japan before moving to the U.S. to pursue a Ph.D. in neuroscience. She recently became a professor, which absolutely terrifies her. When Ali is not at work, she can be found running, crocheting, eating cake pops, or watching sci-fi movies with her two feline overlords (and her slightly-less-feline husband).
